Meet G. William Bates, MD, PhD
G. William Bates, M.D. (Bill) is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist with over 40 years of experience in the field. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed a research fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He earned the degree of master of business administration at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He started the third in-vitro fertilization program in the United States (University of Mississippi Medical Center) in 1983; he has numerous scientific publications in the field of reproductive endocrinology. He wrote the reproductive endocrinology section for Beckmann's Obstetrics and Gynecology - the most widely used medical student textbook in the specialty.
Dr. Bates has served as professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Mississippi, the University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt University, and currently, Meharry Medical College. He served as dean of medicine of the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston.
In 1999, Dr Bates founded digiChart, Inc., an electronic medical record company dedicated to women's health care. He served as president and chief executive officer until 2013. He served on the board of directors of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
